Unfortunately for movie lovers waiting for another unforgettable performance by Saoirse Ronan, she is not in it, but the film is still worth watching. Sony Pictures Classics has recently released that a thrilling drama called “The Outrun” is set to premier in theaters in the US by 4th of October of year 2024. Generally speaking, this film is already enjoying a fair share of hype, especially after it made its debut at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival.
Adapted from Amy Liptrot's 2016 bestseller “The Outrun,” The Outrun is a coming-of-age story of 29-year-old Rona played by Ronan. It tells the story of Rona who had left her home in the Orkney Islands to move to London until she feels ready to come back home. This was further depicted through her process of being an addict and the process of getting over the vice as portrayed in the harsh and surreal setting of the Orkney Island. In the synopsis of the film, it ties in the theme of Rona having to leave her past behind and struggling to overcome her memories and find solace and power in the freeing nature of the wilderness.

German director Nora Fingscheidt, as expected, does a brilliant job in handling this movie. The Force Awakens screenplay was co-written by Abrams and Liptrot, to bring the novel as closely and emotionally both to the screen and to wide audiences as possible. Supporting the main cast is an equally stellar ensemble that features Paapa Essiedu, Stephen Dillane, and Saskia Reeves. Australian production team consists of Ronan herself along with Sarah Brocklehurst as writer, Dominic Norris as director and Jack Lowden as the actor.
October 2024 is packed with movie releases, and “The Outrun” will compete with big names like “Joker: There was in 2009 “Folie à Deux” and in 2011 “Venom: The Last Dance. “ But if one has to see this film because of Ronan it should be for his powerful performance and depiction of addiction, and recovery process. Be sure to watch “The Outrun.” This is one of those movies that worth seeing as they deeply shake your conscience.
