Denis Leary from FX's successful firehouse dramedy ‘Rescue Me' has been cast to play the coach of the Cleveland Browns in
Ivan Reitman and
Kevin Costner‘s NFL movie,
Draft Day.
Reitman-directed football dramedy, which is actually being planned as an ensemble film, also stars
Jennifer Garner as Costner character's secretary.
Penned by
Rajiv Joseph and
Scott Rothman, the Lionsgate movie centers around a general manager (Costner) who will go to any lengths to secure his pick during the NFL's draft. The original script topped last year's Black List of best unproduced screenplays.
Leary will
reportedly play Vince Penn, the new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, who finds himself at odds with the team's GM.
The film is partially set to be shot on April 25th during the NFL draft at the Radio City Music Hall for a likely 2014 release.
Hopefully Draft Day will be able to provide a fresh perspective not previously seen in a football film.
As for the ever-unpredictable Leary, Marc Webb's
The Amazing Spider-Man was first live-action film since his FX drama, Rescue Me, wrapped last year.

Are you excited to see Leary as coach of the Browns?
