Academy Award-winning actor
Chris Cooper (Adaptation) is set to star as
Norman Osborn, a.k.a. the Green Goblin, in
Marc Webb‘s sequel to
The Amazing Spider-Man.
The character of Osborn was played by
Willem Dafoe in
Sam Raimi‘s Spidey trilogy, but Cooper is rather terrific casting.
The shady character was teased in last year's The Amazing Spider-Man, but we never saw his face. It remains to be seen if Cooper will put on the mask of his alter-ego, the Green Goblin and fight Spider-Man as other two super-villains which already includes
Jamie Foxx‘s Electro and
Paul Giamatti‘s Rhino are more than enough for one movie.
However, Osborn is a central character in Spider-Man/Peter's life, starting off as a mentor and brilliant industrialist before turning bad.
Dane DeHaan has already been cast as his son, Harry Osborn along with
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy,
Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, and
Felicity Jones possibly as the thief Black Cat.
The film stars, of course,
Andrew Garfield as the webslinger.
The screenplay by
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and
Jeff Pinkner is based on a previous draft by
James Vanderbilt and
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently in production in NYC, as
recent set-pics have proven.
The film hits theaters May 2nd, 2014.
As for Cooper, he'll next be seen in August: Osage County.
