The first full-length trailer for Paul Greengrass‘ action thriller Captain Phillips has arrived today and it looks so damn good.
Oscar-winner Tom Hanks plays the title character in the true story of an unarmed American freighter ship hijacked by Somali pirates in 2009.
It was the first successful pirate seizure of a ship registered under the American flag in two hundred years.
The film formerly called Maersk Alabama, inspired by the name of Phillips' ship, also stars Catherine Keener, Max Martini, Yul Vazquez and Chris Mulkey.
The script was written by Billy Ray (Hart's War) based upon the book, ‘A Captain's Duty: Somali Pirates, Navy SEALs, and Dangerous Days at Sea,' by Richard Phillips with Stephan Talty.
Greengrass with his trademark style of edgy hand-held documentary shooting knows how to find powerful drama in true stories (Bloody Sunday , United 93) and this time looks like it'll be riveting from start to finish.
Captain Phillips arrives in theaters on October 11th, 2013.
