Daniele Luchetti‘s project
La Nostra Vita (Our Life) is the only Italian film in competition for the Golden Palm at the
Cannes Film Festival 2010.
This will be Luchetti's fourth time at Cannes, and looks like he's got himself some good story since we already had a chance to hear from him that “above and beyond his difficulties, it's the story of a whole country.” Check the rest of report…
So, this is story about working-class man in Rome, who must come to terms with a death caused by a traumatic event.
Luchetti said that “The film mixes various horizons, such as life and profound pain. It is simultaneously furious and lively. I worked less on lightening up the tone this time, in order to let the truth emerge”.
He also added that he had “a great desire look to at my country through a character that was not sweetened down; an ambitious working-class man who is full of life and dishonest.”
Movie stars
Elio Germano (that we all had a chance to see in Luchetti's
My Brother Is an Only Child). Also in the cast of La Nostra Vita are
Raoul Bova (of Under The Tuscan Sun fame), then Italian TV's Ispettore Montalbano –
Luca Zingaretti and
Isabella Ragonese who gained international attention in Paolo Virzi's 2008 Tutta La Vita Davanti (A Whole Life Ahead).
Luchetti was nominated for a Golden Palm in 1991 for
Il Portaborse (The Bag Carrier), starring Nanni Moretti as a corrupt politician. His other films include
La Scuola (The School, 1995),
Dillo Con Parole Mie (Ginger and Cinnamon, 2003) and
Mio Fratello E' Figlio Unico (My Brother Is An Only Child, 2007).
La nostra Vita is a story written by
Sandro Rulli, Stefano Petraglia and
Luchetti. It was produced by Cattleya with RAI Cinema, and will be distributed in April by 01 Distribution.
Well, we wish them luck, and we'll once again repeat that the festival opens on May 12 with Ridley Scott's Robin Hood starring Russell Crowe, and winds up on May 23. Stay tuned!
