Adapting video games has not been too successful in the world of cinema, although with the latest TV adaptations based on video games such as The Last of Us, it is possible to pull off a work that does justice to the games. Now, the movie industry can try to recreate this with Borderlands, the movie in the making. This movie from Marvel studios which is set to release on 9th August is all set to take us through a colorful and always on the edge world like no other.
It has been sometime now since Borderlands movie was being teased. It was first teased back in 2015, and it appeared that it might ultimately become a victim of development hell before its resurrection in 2020 with Eli Roth, the director of Hostel, at the helm. This revival came with it a lot of casting news to which Hollywood was hospitable with Cate Blanchett as the infamous outlaw Lilith, Jamie Lee Curtis as the eccentric archaeologist Tannis, Kevin Hart as the hardened mercenary Roland, Ariana Greenblatt as the explosive Tiny Tina, Florian Munteanu as the fierce protector Krieg, and Jack Black lending his voice to the fan's favorite robot, Claptrap.

Of particular concern is the fact that the plot and setting of the movie are centered around the planet Pandora, where Lilith reappears in a new mission for capturing a missing girl. During her journey she gathers a group of heroes who have rather distinct character and abilities specially assigned for the game. Continuing their mission, they stumble upon an incomprehensible force that puts the entire future at risk.
Lionsgate is the one that has released the last and the final trailer revealing a very much expected amount of the original franchise's cheesy-cool action and comedy. Many reviewers will recall scenes such as car driving into the monster that had been familiar to fans from the game, and the ugliest pee-in-mouth joke, along with some new pieces that reveal more about the storyline of the movie.
Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford has even mentioned that the company has started developing a “Borderlands Cinematic Universe”, which might mean which means this could just be the start of a big series of movies. Whether this grand plan bears fruit remains to be seen, but with an impressive cast and colorful aesthetic that perfectly reflects the essence of the franchise, you have to see it in the theaters this summer.
