Last week, it was reported that
Ben Stiller is working together with the script co-writer
Justin Theroux (Tropic Thunder, Iron Man 2 ) on a
Zoolander 2 at Paramount Pictures.
Jonah Hill (Accepted, The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Funny People) was said to be in negotiations to play the villain.
Now
MTV Movies Blog has spoken with Stiller, who confirmed that
Zoolander 2 is happening. Here are the highlights…
On The Film Being Confirmed: “Yes, it is true,” Stiller confirmed of the sequel plans. “We are in the process of getting a script written. It's in the early stages, but it's gonna happen. We've been trying for years to… figure it out. It'll have input from all the… ‘Zoolander' people. It's just… taken awhile.”
Where Will The Sequel Begin?: “We have a new story idea that we feel excited about and we're going to try to go forward,” he said. “The beginning of the movie is [set]… 10 years later, and Derek & Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody even knows who they are, so they have to re-invent themselves.”
Can We Expect Will Ferrell In The Movie?: “If Will says yes, he definitely has to be a part of it,” Stiller said. “To me, Mugatu is one of the classic screen villains of all time.”
Zoolander made $45.2 million at the U.S. box office with a budget of an estimated $28 million.
