Anthony Mackie, whose credits include She Hate Me, The Hurt Locker, The Adjustment Bureau and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is in talks to play The Falcon in the upcoming
Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Sam T. Wilson a.k.a. Falcon is the character first introduced in Captain America #117 in 1969, created by writer-editor Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan. The Falcon was the first African-American hero, a Harlem hero who wears a suit that lets him fly and who has a telepathic connection with his falcon, Redwing, and he can also see through the eyes of birds.
Directed by
Joe and
Anthony Russo (Community), Captain America: The Winter Soldier already stars
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America and
Sebastian Stan as James ‘Bucky' Barnes / The Winter Soldier; the sequel will be released April 4th, 2014.
The Marvel Studio sequel would follow
Ed Brubaker's Winter Soldier storyline, revealing the true fate of Bucky after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, hinting at Bucky's return as the brainwashed Russian super spy. The screenplay by
Christopher Markus and
Stephen McFeely is said to take place in the present-day, essentially.
Mackie has the Warner Bros. crime movie Gangster Squad coming out this fall, recently wrapped up Michael Bay's dark indie comedy Pain and Gain and is shooting gambling thriller Runner, Runner with Ben Affleck and Justin Timberlake.
Mackie without doubt is Hollywood rising star, but are you surprised to see Winter Soldier so soon in the Captain America franchise
?

“… surprised to see Winter Soldier so soon in the Captain America franchise?” No, Nick, not too soon at all. One reason is it will be three years since the first one.
Second, keep ’em coming while the Avengers are hot. And for a third reason, there will probably be no third Capt. America “stand-alone” film. I am guessing the final appearance of Cap will be in the 2nd or third Avengers flick. Unless they do the current trend of “re-booting”…sucks, by the way.
