DreamWorks Studios announced that
Tom Rothman has signed on to produce sci-fi spectacular
Robopocalypse;
THR added that
Anne Hathaway is in talks to join the not-yet-confirmed
Chris Hemsworth in the big screen adaptation, so Thor and Catwoman may be teaming up for
Steven Spielberg‘s latest film.
Well, it might just happen (believe it or not). Spielberg is currently busy testing out IMAX cameras and 3D for the blockbuster set for release on April 25th, 2014.
The legendary filmmaker told
Yahoo:
I'm going to do an IMAX camera test, (both) a 2 and 3D test for my next movie ‘Robopocalypse,' and I haven't decided whether I'm going to use the IMAX cameras, and I haven't decided whether it's going to be 2D or 3D yet, but I am in September going to start doing some tests.
As for Rothman's involvement, who recently resigned as chairman of 20th Century Fox's feature film division, Spielberg is confident in his abilities as a producer saying,
When someone like Tom is a free agent, you snatch him up fast. He has proven himself to be a necessity of this industry. At Fox he had already been an enthusiastic partner on Robopocalypse, and it is to our advantage that he would come produce this film with me.
Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) adapted the novel from author
Daniel H. Wilson and the film is set to begin shooting early next year.
The story follows a robot rebellion against the human race in a future where the global network of machines on which our world has grown dependent suddenly becomes an implacable, deadly foe after a sentient piece of artificial intelligence reprograms them to become self-aware and fight back.
