As you probably remember, Fontaine directed the movie from a script writen by
Christopher Hampton, which explores the intricacies of love, family, morality and passion, and revolves around two lifelong friends who find unexpected happiness in relationships that cross the bounds of convention.
In other words – Watts and Wright star as two friends who unexpectedly fall in love with each other's sons, and must deal with the ramifications of their actions as their respective relationships progress over an extended period of time.
