I’ve heard rumblings about a remake and the rumor has resurfaced today with a report that Lionsgate is developing a new film based on the Bret Easton-Ellis novel
American Psycho, which was previously turned into a film starring Christian Bale.
The studio has tapped lesser known
Noble Jones, but with credits as a commercial and music video director to adapt a new version of the same book.
The script is finished about a month ago and Jones hopes to make his feature directing debut, and turn the film into “updated, down and dirty low budget” version of the story that looks at how NYC has changed since 2000, when the original film was released. The city apparently has changed a hell of a lot since 9/11, so this won’t be a straight remake
The project is in development, which means it could be months or years to come to any kind of fruition.
However, a major character in a story is described as follows:
In American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis imaginatively explores the incomprehensible depths of madness and captures the insanity of violence in our time or any other. Patrick Bateman moves among the young and trendy in 1980s Manhattan. Young, handsome, and well educated, Bateman earns his fortune on Wall Street by day while spending his nights in ways we cannot begin to fathom. Expressing his true self through torture and murder, Bateman prefigures an apocalyptic horror that no society could bear to confront.
